The Chains of Self-Limiting Beliefs

A self-limiting belief is an idea that constrains our personal reality. It’s a belief about ourselves or the world that determines actions and perception of reality. These beliefs come from trauma, ignorance and/or low self-esteem.

Our biggest obstacles are inside our head

Here are some examples of limiting beliefs:

  • It’s too late for me to start
  • I’m not good at X
  • All men/women cheat

Our minds shape our reality, we see things the way we believe they are (check cognitive dissonance, confirmation and consistency bias). If you believe the people are not trustworthy, your mind will work 24/7 in finding evidence that they are not trustworthy. If you believe the opposite, your mind will make sure that you confirm people are good.

You can transform self limiting beliefs into expansion beliefs by changing your attitude

New year’s eve is coming and most of us are thinking about what’s next. Make a list of things you are not good at, things that scare you, situations that make you anxious. Acknowledge those limits and break them!
